Smart Grid

Efficient transmission and distribution of electricity, whether generated from wind, sun, or water, is vital to the world’s future.

WSU has a history of excellence in the fields of electric power systems and energy systems. Researchers in the College of Engineering and Architecture are working to develop and incorporate new technologies aimed at improving the efficiency and reliability of electric power and energy systems, and explore ways to better distribute energy and increase the efficiency of the smart grid. WSU Extension faculty develop and provide education to the public on energy and environmental issues.

With experts like Anjan Bose, National Academy Member and technical leader in the power grid control industry, WSU is furthering research and education involving climate change and carbon management. In collaboration with industry partners such as BPA (Bonneville Power Administration, which provides power transmission to the Northwest U.S.), utility providers, and PNNL (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory), the University aims to increase public awareness and education on energy and environmental issues.
